Nilu Phule ( Marathi : निळू फुले , Niḷū Phule ; * 1931 in Pune , Maharashtra ; † July 13, 2009 there ; actually Neelkanth Krushnaji Phule ) was an Indian theater director and actor as well as an actor of Marathic and Hindi films .

Life

Nilu Phule began as a play writer and actor on amateur stages of the Tamasha marathic folk art theater . His first professional play, Katha Akalecha Kandyachi , was written in 1965. In his stage career, he played leading roles in Vijay Tendulkar's Sakharam Binder (1972) and Baby (1976), Jaywant Dalvis Suryasta (1978) and Shyam Manohar's Premachi Goshta (1997).

Nilu Phule made his film debut in 1968 in Ek Gao Bara Bhangadi by Anant Mane . In the 1970s he was one of the leading actors in marathic film . In addition to the well-known stage actor Shreeram Lagoo , he starred in V. Shantarams Pinjra (1972) - a remake of Sternberg's The Blue Angel (1930) - and in Jabbar Patel's Saamna (1975) and Sinhasan (1979). Phule's role as the corrupt politician Hindurao Dhonde Patil in Saamna is considered his most important film role. In the 1980s he made several appearances in Hindi films, mostly in rogue roles.

He died on July 13, 2009 of esophageal cancer .
