John Furia

John Joseph Furia, Jr. (born August 16, 1929 in New York City , New York - † May 8, 2009 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter and television producer . In some cases he is also listed as John Joseph .

Life

Furia first worked in New York as a singer in entertainment bands. He moved to California in the early 1960s and wrote screenplays for television series such as Dr Kildare , Bonanza and Twilight Zone . In 1966 he wrote the screenplay for the Oscar- nominated film Dominique - The Singing Nun with Debbie Reynolds in the lead role. He later also worked as a producer, initially for series such as Kung Fu , from the mid-1970s he also produced television films, including Lost and Damned, based on the novel by Ernest Hemingway .

From 1973 to 1975 he was president of the Writers Guild of America West, where he also served on the board of directors. He has been honored with various awards by the WGA for his achievements. He worked as a consultant at the National Endowment for the Humanities Foundation and from 1996 lecturer at the University of Southern California .
