Steven Gilborn

Steven Neil Gilborn (born July 15, 1936 in New Rochelle , New York , † January 2, 2009 in Chatham , New York) was an American literary scholar and actor .

Life

Steven Gilborn first attended Swarthmore College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in English literature . 1969 followed a Ph.D. in English literature from Stanford University . He then taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , Stanford University, Columbia University and the University of California .

From the mid-1980s, Gilborn was a well-booked guest star in US television series . In 1990 and 1991 he played a coroner in four episodes of the crime series Columbo . He had other recurring roles in The Wonder Years , LA Law , Practice - The Lawyers and Six Under One Roof . From 1994 to 1998 he played in the ABC - sitcom Ellen the father of actress Ellen DeGeneres . He had feature film roles in the comedies The Brady Family and The Brady Family 2 and Private Parts .

Gilborn was married to landscape photographer Karen Halverson. He succumbed to the consequences of cancer .
