CK Nagesh (2005)

CK Nagesh (real name: Gundappa Rao ; Tamil : நாகேஷ் ; born September 27, 1933 in Dharapuram ; † January 31, 2009 in Chennai , Tamil Nadu ) was an Indian film and stage actor. As a film comedian, he was a popular actor in Tamil films, especially in the 1960s .

Career

He comes from a Canarian family and started out as an actor in theater groups. Nagesh made his film debut in 1958. In Server Sundaram (1964), the screen adaptation of a play by K. Balachander , he played his first leading role - the waiter Sundaram, who falls hopelessly in love with the rich Radha - and thus led the character of the “tragic hero “Into Tamil film. Nagesh had previously played the role on stage.

In addition to his numerous comic roles, he also found attention as a character actor, u. a. in AP Nagarajan's Thiruvilaiyadal (1965) as a poor poet and in CV Sridhar's Kadalikka Neramillai (1964), as well as in serious roles directed by Balachander in Neer Kumizhi (1965) and Ethir Neechal (1968). Nagesh appeared together with Sivaji Ganesan , MG Ramachandran and Kamalahasan , and he was often partnered with the actress Manorama .

Since the late 1970s, Nagesh also occasionally starred in Telugu and Malayalam films. His last film was the Kamal Hassan production Dasavatharam (2008). Nagesh has received several awards for his work, including the Tamil Kannadasan Award in 2007 .

Nagesh's son Anand Babu is also an actor.
