action
The Polish artist Julia is the daughter of the writer Barbara and the documentary filmmaker Jurek. Julia's husband Piotr is a talented and successful composer. You live in Krakow . When her mother Barbara falls ill with stomach cancer, the family's life turns upside down. Julia accompanies her mother to her death, but her husband Piotr is rehearsing a world premiere in Cologne and leaves her alone in this difficult situation. Only friend Adrian is at her side. Father Jurek is also overwhelmed by the threat of losing his beloved wife. The young Julia carries the family's suffering on her shoulders. After the mother's death, the father collapses completely and flees into alcohol. Only a short time later, the father also dies. Julia only finds peace in Adrian's arms, but this in turn destroys her marriage to Piotr. After the loss of her parents and the breakdown of the marriage, she is now alone in the world and has to embark on an uncertain future alone, with which Adrian cannot help her either.

The film has autobiographical traits. Małgorzata Szumowska's parents were journalists Dorota Terakowska and Maciej Szumowski. Dorota Terakowska died in January 2004. Her father Maciej Szumowski died a month later.
The film opened in German cinemas on November 13, 2008.
