Walter Jonigkeit
Walter Jonigkeit (born April 24, 1907 ; † December 25, 2009 ) was a German cinema operator.
Career
Jonigkeit began his career as a film salesman. In 1932 he founded the Kino Unter den Linden cinema in Berlin , which he made the city's first repertory film theater. He was one of the first cinema operators in Germany to announce the films from his cinemas in programs. In 1937, the cinema Die crank was added in Charlottenburg . Further cinemas in Munich and Hamburg followed.
After the end of the Second World War, he set up the Delphi Filmpalast in the ruins of a former dance palace , which opened in 1949 with the largest screen in Berlin and the most modern technical equipment. Between 1956 and 1959 he also ran the open-air cinema in the Waldbühne . In the late 1960s he took over the Hamburg Savoy Film Theater .
In 1988 Jonigkeit was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his special services to the film industry .
