Jean-François Richet

Jean-François Richet (born July 2, 1966 in Paris , France ) is a French film director and screenwriter .

Life

Jean-Francois Richet grew up in humble circumstances in Meaux near Paris and worked in a factory for several years before he came to film. He was influenced by the great Russian directors Dziga Vertov and Sergei Eisenstein .

His first film, État des lieux (1995), was nominated at several festivals, including the César for best first work. The background of his next film Brennender Asphalt (1997) was the life of street gangs in the suburbs of Paris, where his own experiences of his life in the suburbs of Paris were incorporated.

After three French films, he ventured to America and made a remake of the John Carpenter film Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) in 2005 .

In 2008 he shot with Public Enemy No. 1 - Murder Instinct (Mesrine: L'instinct de mort) and Public Enemy No. 1 - Death drive (Mesrine: L'Ennemi public n ° 1) the two-part story of the unscrupulous ex-soldier Mesrine, who, returning from the Algerian war, starts an unprecedented gangster career. For both films, he and Vincent Cassel , the leading actor, won several film awards.
