Old Catholic Church (The Hague)
The Old Catholic Church ( Dutch Oud-Katholieke kerk ) in the Juffrouw Idastraat in The Hague is also called the Jacobus and Augustinus Church. The church is a baroque schuilkerk from the 18th century. In 1720 the city council approved the construction of a Catholic church on the condition that the church would not be visible from the street. This became the "Oud-kathieke kerk van 's-Gravenhage", which was consecrated in 1722. The architect may have been Nicolaas Kruysslebergen . The church cannot be seen from the street, the entrance looks like a normal front door. A small corridor leads to the church.
Furnishing
There is a lot of stucco inside that is reminiscent of Daniel Marot's style . Twelve apostles can be seen on the ceiling. In the middle is a representation of the Ascension of Christ. The pulpit was created by Johann Baptist Xavery and was completed in 1729. The baroque altarpiece with a representation of Christ on Mount Tabor was created by Matthäus Terwesten .
organ
The organ was built by Rudolf Garrels in 1726 and has the status of a Rijksmonument today . The instrument has 18 registers on two manuals and a pedal , whereby the pedal register Subbass 16 ′ was not added until 1995 by the organ building company Flentrop - until then the organ had (only) one attached pedal. The actions are mechanical.
