Rudolf Garrels

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudolf Garrels (also Rudolph or Redolph Garrelts; * 1675 in Norden ; † May 9, 1750 in The Hague ) was a student of Arp Schnitger , German master organ builder and wood carver, who mainly worked in the Netherlands .

Life

Garrels was baptized on March 25, 1675 in the Ludgeri Church of the North as the son of the brewer Garrelt Harings and Eske Christoffers. In 1697 his name is proven as a journeyman of Arp Schnitger in connection with the construction of the Aa-kerk organ in Groningen . 1709–11 Schnitger entrusted him with the building of the organ in Sneek . It is possible that he had previously worked for the famous master in the Hamburg workshop. After Schnitger's death (1719) Garrels moved from Groningen to Leiden , and in 1727 to The Hague . On April 27, 1727 he married Jannetje van de Vijver, who came from Delft . The marriage remained childless. His grave is unknown.

Pulpit in the north (1712)

His work included the overhaul of the organ in Norden in 1706 (not finally secured) and in 1717. For this church Garrels made the magnificent pulpit with its mighty sound cover in 1712, which is still preserved today.
