Heinz Edelmann
Heinz Edelmann (born June 20, 1934 in Aussig , Czechoslovakia ; † July 21, 2009 in Stuttgart ) was an illustrator and graphic designer who had a strong influence on international graphics in the 1960s and 1970s.
Life
After studying at the Düsseldorf Art Academy as a student of Otto Coester , he worked as a freelance graphic designer from 1958. In his collaboration with Willy Fleckhaus , as an illustrator, he had a decisive influence on the face of the youth magazine twen for over ten years . He also worked as a graphic designer for Capital , Playboy , pardon and FAZ-Magazin .
He became known to a larger audience through the Beatles film Yellow Submarine , for whose production he was responsible as art director in 1967/1968. He also wrote the opening credits for the ZDF series The Fantastic Film . He designed numerous book covers for Klett-Cotta Verlag , among others together with his former fellow student Klaus Kammerichs . Edelmann designed the first German edition of The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien in a translation by Margaret Carroux from 1969/1970. His numerous illustrations for Kenneth Graham 's children's book The Wind in the Weiden are also known .
From 1972 to 1976, Heinz Edelmann taught commercial graphics in the design department at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences . Then he was a lecturer in art and design at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences ( Kölner Werkschulen ). In the winter semester of 1986/87 he was appointed professor and head of a class for graphic design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart , an office he held until his retirement in 1999.
Heinz Edelmann died at the age of 75 in a Stuttgart hospital.
