Niki List

Niki List (born June 28, 1956 in Vienna ; † April 2, 2009 ibid) was an Austrian film director , screenwriter and producer . He was considered an outstanding representative of Austrian film .

Life

After graduating from the Academic Gymnasium in 1975 , List first studied theater studies in Vienna . From 1977 he attended the Higher Graphic Federal Teaching and Research Institute Vienna, photography department, which he graduated with honors in 1980.

Even during his studies he worked on various theater projects, for example as an actor in Amok (1975) and Living Theater (1976). In 1980 and 1981 he was assistant director in the Künstlerhausheater and Konzerthausheater .

In 1986 he succeeded with the feature film Müller's Office , a detective and musical satire, which, with around 441,000 visitors to date (2013), was the third largest audience success of an Austrian film in Austrian cinemas.

He later directed the theater himself, for example in 1993 in St. Gallen at the world premiere of Chapling by Jürg Federspiel , in 2006 at the Neue Bühne Villach and in 2007 in the Vienna Metropol for the piece Müller's office - The Musical .

On the evening of April 1, 2009 List attended the premiere party of the Vienna Film Academy Festival . At a post party in a downtown pub, he fell badly and was lying unconscious. The rescue workers declared him dead at 2 am. The urn with the remains of Niki List was buried in an honorary grave (group 40, no. 76) at the Vienna Central Cemetery.
