Malaria or Café Malaria is the title of an Austrian New Wave film by Niki List from 1982 . Niki List's debut ironically captures the bizarre youth culture of the early 1980s in Vienna .

The film is about Café Malaria, in which various youth groups such as left activists, popper , new wave punks, drug dealers, confused outsiders, machos, etc. meet and act: They discuss without saying much, remain silent, fall in love every minute, drink and laugh . The café is run by the bartender Tusnelda, who creates colorful drinks with weird names like "Valium Eins" or "Schizo" from a chemical kit and serves them to her customers.
