Ned Tanen

Ned Stone Tanen (born September 30, 1931 in Los Angeles , California , † January 5, 2009 in Santa Monica , California) was an American film producer .

Life

Ned Tanen studied at the University of California and got a job at MCA in 1954 . In 1967 he was involved in founding the Uni Records label , which eventually became MCA Records after the merger with Decca Records . In 1976 he was named director of Universal Pictures , a subsidiary of MCA . After hits like Animal House and Blues Brothers , he left Universal in 1982 and founded the production company Channel Productions , with which he produced the feature film St. Elmo's Fire , among other things .

In 1984 he became director of the film division of Paramount Pictures . He was responsible for productions such as Crocodile Dundee and Top Gun , the studio grossing $ 600 million in 1986, which was a new record at the time. In 1988 he left Paramount. He produced a few more films in the 1990s, including Tess and her Bodyguard in 1994.
