Rosanna Schiaffino

Rosanna Schiaffino (born November 25, 1939 in Genoa , † October 17, 2009 in Milan ) was an Italian actress .

Life

Schiaffino was born in Northern Italy . In the 1950s, she took part in a few miss elections . At sixteen she was elected Miss Liguria . She then worked as a photo model . From 1956 she also worked as a film actress .

Her cinema career began in 1956 with two tiny roles in the films Orlando ei Paladini di Francia and Totò, lascia o raddoppia? . In 1958 she got the lead role in the film The Challenge (La sfida) by Francesco Rosi . 1959 followed the female lead in the film One hectare of heaven (Un ettare di cielo) . Schiaffino then played in numerous Italian and international productions.

With the films Der Rebell von Samara (Il vendicatore) by Wilhelm Dieterle , Wir von der Straße (La notte brava) by Mauro Bolognini and Two weeks in another town (Two weeks in another town) by Vincente Minnelli , Schiaffino achieved the final breakthrough for Movie star. Schiaffino starred alongside Françoise Arnoul and Michel Piccoli in the 1960 film Ball of Spies (Le bal des espions) . In 1962 she played together with OW Fischer in the film Axel Munthe - The Doctor of San Michele .

In 1966 she was awarded a special price (Targa d'Oro) by David di Donatello for her role as Lucrezia in the film Mandragola or The Lover as Doctor , a comedy by Niccolò Machiavelli .

From the mid-1960s, however, Schiaffino only got roles in mediocre productions. Schiaffino played this time at random in period films , thrillers , spaghetti westerns and comedies . In the mid-1970s, Schiaffino retired from the film business.

In 1991 the actress fell ill with breast cancer . After a significant deterioration in their state of health in 2008 Schiaffino succumbed to her in October 2009 at the age of 69 years suffering from cancer .
