topten is an online database that distinguishes the most energy-efficient electrical devices. The product selection and the definition of the selection criteria are neutral and independent of manufacturers, trading companies and cooperation partners. Topten certifies around 5–10% of the available devices per category and is therefore significantly stricter than other energy labels, such as B. the Energy Star or the energy consumption label .

history

Topten.ch was founded in Switzerland in 2000 by a joint venture of the Swiss Agency for Energy Efficiency (SAFE), Saldo / Consuprint AG (consumer magazine) and various journalists. The first activation took place on September 13, 2000. The successful project was successively expanded to 13 European countries. Topten has been online in China and the USA since October 2010.

Topten is supported by the EU Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE) program and the WWF .

Since 2009, some market providers have been labeling their most economical devices with a topten label directly on the device. Thus topten has become an important label for energy efficiency . In Switzerland, Migros , EKZ and Coop were the first companies to introduce the topten award in their product ranges.
