Joseph Wiseman

Joseph Wiseman (born May 15, 1918 in Montreal , † October 19, 2009 in New York City ) was a Canadian actor .

Life

Wiseman graduated from John Adams High School in Queens, New York in 1935. He was a successful theater actor. He made his debut on Broadway in 1938, where he appeared in plays such as “King Lear” (Shakespeare) or “Uncle Vanya” (Chekhov). His last engagement was 2001 in Judgment at Nuremberg . Wiseman's most famous role in the cinema was that of Dr. Julius No in the first James Bond film Dr. No from 1962. His other feature films included Viva Zapata! alongside Marlon Brando , William Friedkins The Night When Minsky Was Discovered and the Western Lawman with Burt Lancaster . Since the 1950s, he has guest-starred on television series such as Twilight Zone , MacGyver , The A-Team, and Law & Order . Between 1986 and 1988 he had one of the leading roles in the series Crime Story .

In 1943 he married the voice coach Nell Kinard. The later divorced couple had a daughter, Martha. In 1964 Wiseman married the three years younger dancer Pearl Lang, this marriage lasted until her death in spring 2009. Joseph Wiseman died in the same year at the age of 91.
