Pearl Hackney

Pearl Hackney (born October 28, 1916 in Burton-upon-Trent , Staffordshire , † September 18, 2009 in Kent ) was a British actress .

Life

Hackney took ballet lessons as a child. Later she worked temporarily in Liverpool as a tap dance teacher . After an audition at the Windmill Theater in London , she was signed as a dancer there. There she met her future husband, the actor Eric Barker . They were married in 1936. During the Second World War , her husband joined the Royal Navy , and she joined the British Home Guard . Together they worked on the radio entertainment program Merry-Go-Round . After the end of the war, both successfully continued the program under a new name. In the 1950s she played theater in London's West End , from the 1960s she was also seen in television and occasionally in film projects. She played her last roles in the late 1980s. Her daughter Petronella, born in 1945, was also an actress and was married to Anthony Hopkins between 1967 and 1972 . From this marriage Abigail Hopkins emerged, also an actress.
