Meterostachys sikokiana is the only plant species of the monotypic genus Meterostachys in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).
description
Meterostachys sikokiana is a perennial succulent plant that forms small rosettes and has a thickened taproot . The linear to linear-triangular leaves are pointed to thorn-pointed and often cartilaginous. They are 7 to 25 millimeters long and 2 to 3 millimeters wide.
The annual, simple, upright flowering shoots appear from the leaf axils of the rosette leaves. They reach heights of 1.5 to 8 centimeters. The flower axis is finely waxed and leafy. The loose inflorescence is terminal and zymos. The hermaphroditic flowers are five-fold (rarely four-fold) and obdiplostemon . The flower stalks are often longer than the flowers. The linear-lanceolate, fleshy, persistent sepals are 1.7 to 2.6 millimeters long and fused together at their base. The ascending, broadly lanceolate to lanceolate petals are white (often with a reddish glow) and between 2.5 and 4 millimeters long. They are fused together over a third to two fifths of their length. The stamens are abbreviations as the petals, the carpels are deep red. The elongated, whitish nectar flakes are about 0.8 millimeters long.
The seeds are cylindrical.
Systematics and distribution

The only species of the genus was first described in 1891 as Cotyledon sikokiana by Tomitarô Makino (1862–1957) . Takenoshin Nakai established the new genus Meterostachys for the species in 1935 .
Another synonym is Orostachys sikokiana .
