Eddie Marsan (born June 9, 1968 in Bethnal Green in East London) is a British actor.

Life

Marsan completed an apprenticeship as a printer in Bethnal Green before attending the Mountview Academy of Theater Arts and - after graduation in 1991 - embarking on an acting career. His first acting work was in television productions such as The Bill and Casualty . In 1997, he made his first appearance in a major film production company in the Bill Murray vehicle Agent Null Null Nix . In the following time he appeared in film and television productions in character roles.

His best-known roles include appearances in the film 21 Grams , for which he received the Phoenix , Arizona Film Critics' PFCS Award , and as a reg in Mike Leigh's Oscar-nominated film Vera Drake , which earned him a British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. Critical praise was his role as the best friend of England's last hangman in the 2006 film Pierrepoint . For this he was nominated by the London Film Critics Association for an ALFS Award for Best Supporting Actor. His portrayal of driving instructor Scott in Mike Leigh's Happy-Go-Lucky (2008) was also praised as “brilliant” by critics. In addition, he often drew attention to himself in major Hollywood productions in character roles.

Eddie Marsan has been married to make-up artist Janine Schneider since June 1, 2002 . The couple have four children and live in London.
