Richard Hasenfuß - Held in Chucks is a romantic comedy film directed by Vito Rocco from 2008.

action

Richard is an avid LARP and reenactment player and enjoys recreating Viking battles with his friends. Otherwise he is quite a loser and is bullied at work. His son also has problems at school because of the unusual hobby. When he misses the funeral of his stepfather, his wife Cath is enough and she puts him in front of the door. Shortly thereafter, she begins an affair with Gary, her son's physical education teacher.

The marriage seems to be over, but Richard doesn't give up. But his sometimes very bizarre actions continue to drive a wedge between the two. Finally he tries to be serious, but this plan also fails miserably.

Ultimately, it is due to his son's relationship with a nerdy girl that Richard continues his reenactment group, which is about to break up. He can also win over Cath again. During the Viking Battle, there is a showdown with Gary, in which Richard can finally win back both the hearts of the audience and that of his wife.

background

The film was made with a budget of £ 1.3 million . Much of the film was prepared on the MySpace social network . Music, parts of the plot and some of the smaller roles come from the social network.

MySpace and the production company Vertigo worked together with Film4 and the UK Film Council and implemented the concept from February 2007. Directors were allowed to apply for short films via MySpace. The production company received around 1,000 applications, which in turn shortlisted twelve. In a meeting with actress Sienna Miller among others , three were finally selected and put to the vote on a website. The users finally decided on Vito Rocco.

Similarly, ten smaller roles and ten pieces of music were selected, and the MySpace users could decide on jokes that appear in the film. The MySpace users were also able to influence the action during the entire production time. The actual shooting time was only eight weeks.

The film had its world premiere on June 28, 2008 at the Edinburgh Film Festival . It was then shown in 150 cinemas in the UK. The film was released on DVD in Germany on October 6, 2011.

reception

The film service described the film as "a fun comedy that pulls its slightly eccentric contemporaries through the cocoa in a lovable way." Jend Drengenburg from Kinofilmer.de comes to the following conclusion:

“Richard Hasenfuss” is a lovable and worth seeing film about family, friendship and about standing up for your Viking or husband when required and standing up for the things you love. A film that knows how to convince with its charm. "
