Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw is an American action film by director David Leitch that released in US cinemas on August 2, 2019. It is the ninth feature film and the first spin-off within the Fast and Furious film series . Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham can be seen in the title-giving leading roles, re-impersonating their roles from previous films.

An MI6 task force around Hattie Shaw, Deckard Shaw's sister, is supposed to secure a dangerous virus called "Snowflake". Brixton, a former agent whom Deckard put a bullet in the head years ago, also appears on her assignment in London. At that time, Brixton wanted to convince Deckard to join the technology group "Eteon", which wants to influence human evolution. With the help of the virus, Eteon wants to wipe out the weaker world population and develop the remainder along with the cybernetic body parts that also saved Brixton's life. In London, the ex-soldier can take out all MI6 agents except for Hattie. The latter then injects the seized virus into the blood in the form of small capsules and then escapes the terrorist. Before they fly to Moscow with forged documents, they track down Professor Andreiko, the inventor of the virus and former Eteon employee. This reveals to them that the virus activates itself within a few hours and that it can only be extracted with a machine at Eteon headquarters. Together with the arms dealer Madame M, an old friend of Deckard's, the three of them forge an attack plan: Hattie is supposed to be captured as a distraction, while Luke and Deckard steal the machine. But the plan fails and the two are taken prisoner. Brixton again offers them to join Eteon, but both refuse, whereupon they are electrocuted by the terrorist. At the same time, Andreiko, kidnapped by Brixton, was supposed to start extracting the virus from Hattie. Since they don't know of any other retreat from Eteon, Luke visits his family on Samoa , whom he hasn't seen for 25 years. The Air Marshal Dinkley, whom they met on the flight to Moscow, arranges the flight there. Hobbs' brothers Jonah, Mateo, Kal and Timo run a car repair shop on the island together with other family members and have no longer wanted to have contact with him since he reported his father's illegal activities to the police over twenty years ago. But Luke's mother Sefina convinces the four to make peace with the past and to support Luke. This is how the Samoans prepare for the fight against Brixton and other Eteon supporters. Production history

In November 2015, Vin Diesel spoke for the first time about possible offshoots of the Fast & Furious film series in order to expand the cinematic universe. After Fast & Furious 9 was moved from 2019 to 2020 shortly before, Universal announced a film about the characters Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw in October 2017 , to be written by Chris Morgan and to be released in 2019. According to Dwayne Johnson , the idea for the spin-off came during the filming of Fast & Furious 7 , but was postponed due to the death of Paul Walker as the company wanted to concentrate fully on Fast & Furious 8 at the time .

This announcement led to a conflict between Johnson and Tyrese Gibson . This publicly criticized that Johnson and Hiram Garcia , one of the producers of the film, realize the film because they would separate the "Fast Family". Previously, he and Ludacris had turned down an offer to make their own film, as this family is what makes the series so successful. Moritz defended himself, saying he had the idea for the film and spent months developing it. His involvement is also based on the fact that Universal made it possible for the family of Moritz's production manager Amanda Lewis to move to London so that they could supervise the filming there. On September 10, 2018, shooting started in Shepperton Studios near London , but without Dwayne Johnson . In the United States, the film was rated PG-13 by the MPAA . In order to achieve this, the creators had to cut a scene from the film in which Luke Hobbs had bitten an opponent out of the eye and spat on the floor. In Germany, the film was approved by the FSK for children aged 12 and over. The statement of release states that the film contains numerous action and fight scenes and car chases. However, these are staged in a comic-like exaggerated style and clearly produced using elaborate trick technology. For Julius Vietzen von Filmstarts , Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw is a successful spin-off of the Fast & Furious film series , also because, in contrast to other offshoots, it is “great fun”. Every second there are dry slogans and adolescent insults, numerous major guest appearances and "wonderfully exaggerated action sequences" that perfectly express the talents of the main actors. Everything starts with an opening sequence in which David Leitch and Chris Morgan amusingly and perfectly work out the differences between the title characters on a split screen . At the same time, however, the film's weak point is indicated: both main characters have their own storylines and are too often spatially separated from each other, so that there are not many moments in which their good chemistry can shine, which means that the relationship between them is too short come If both of them were then together in front of the camera, it would be the best parts in the entire film. Even Helen Mirren can temporarily break with her single scene of the movie itself. At the end of March 2020, Johnson announced that they were working on a sequel to the film. A little later he confirmed that the sequel would again be written by Chris Morgan  and produced by Seven Bucks Productions .
