life and career

Leitch grew up in his native Kohler , Wisconsin , and was a big fan of martial arts and action films as a child . He began wrestling while in second grade and continued to practice the sport during high school and the freshman year of his college, the University of Minnesota . In parallel to his college education, he attended a martial arts school, through which he took part in national competitions. One summer he traveled to Los Angeles , where he first came into contact with Hollywood through young stunt people . After returning to Minnesota and graduating, he coached the martial arts school for a year. Eventually he moved to Los Angeles and trained in a group daily for his breakthrough in the stunt industry. After two years he got his first engagements for the television series Buffy - The Vampire Slayer and Martial Law - The Karate Cop . He then worked in numerous American productions as a stuntman, stunt coordinator, second unit director and actor in minor supporting roles. In total, he stood five times for Brad Pitt and twice for Jean-Claude Van Damme as a double in front of the camera. In 2014, he made his debut as a director, co- directing John Wick alongside Chad Stahelski . He also co-produced the film. In the following years other films appeared under his direction, such as Atomic Blonde (2017), Deadpool 2 (2018) and Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw (2019). According to his own statement, Deadpool 2 was a turning point in his directing career, as he had to direct a film with many special effects for the first time and combine it with his way of filmmaking, in which he mainly relied on practical effects. In the future he is to realize the film The Division , based on the computer game Tom Clancy's The Division , for Netflix . In July 2018 it was announced that he would be directing a remake of the martial arts film The Man with the Death Claw .
