Chad Stahelski (born September 20, 1968 as Charles Stahelski ) is an American director , stunt performer and stunt choreographer.

Life

Stahelski was born in 1968 and grew up in Massachusetts . He started judo as a child , learned other martial arts and later became a competitive kickboxer . This is how he got into the stuntman business.

At the beginning of his career he worked for the B-movie director Albert Pyun . He was given a bigger role in 1993 when he had to complete the film The Crow as a body double after the death of his friend Brandon Lee .

In addition to further assignments as a stuntman in various films, he also took up his work as a stunt choreographer with the 1996 film Bloodsport 2 . He was to get a recurring role as a stunt double for Keanu Reeves , whom he doubled for the first time in 1999 in Matrix .

After gaining experience as a second unit director , he appeared in 2014 together with David Leitch as the director of the action film John Wick . The main role played his former double counterpart Keanu Reeves. The film became a success, and so in 2017 the second part John Wick: Chapter 2 followed and in 2019 the third part John Wick: Chapter 3 .
