Fast & Furious Five (Original title: Fast Five ) is an American feature film from 2011 . It is the fifth part of the film series The Fast and the Furious . As with the two previous parts, it was directed by Justin Lin . The plot of the film is based on Fast & Furious - New Model. Original parts. and set before Fast & Furious 6 and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift .

action

The plot of the film begins at the point at which Fast & Furious - New Model. Original parts. ends: Dominic Toretto is on a bus as part of the prisoner transport . Brian O'Conner and Mia Toretto free Dominic with a daring maneuver of their cars. They flee separately to South America, Brian and Mia reach Rio de Janeiro and await Dominic with Vince, who is now settled there. However, Vince initially has an assignment for the two of them and asks them to help him with it. They are said to steal from a moving train three vehicles ( De Tomaso Pantera GTS, Ford GT40 and Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Roadster ), which were confiscated during a DEA raid . The robbery fails, however. Dominic can help Mia and Brian at least steal the Ford GT40. During the escape, Dominic and Brian are kidnapped by the henchmen of the businessman Hernan Reyes, the owner of the vehicles. Dominic and Brian escape and go to Mia, who is already in a secret garage with the GT40. In the vehicle they find a chip that shows Reyes' money hiding places.

Because three DEA agents were killed in the robbery on the train, DSS agent Luke Hobbs and a search team arrive in Rio de Janeiro to find Toretto with the help of patrol officer Elena Neves. With Elena's help, Hobbs finds the hiding place, so that Brian and Mia as well as Dominic flee over the roofs and through the alleys of the favelas . Dominic saves Elena's life in a shooting with Reyes' henchmen. After the escape, Mia, Brian and Dominic meet. The original plan to escape separately is discarded when Mia reveals to Brian that she is pregnant, and all three stay together.

In order to be able to lead a new carefree life, Dominic and Brian decide to steal the money stored in Reyes' hiding place. To urge Reyes to collect his money in a central location, they decide to attack one of his money hiding places. To do this, they group a team of drivers around them - consisting of a few supporting characters from earlier films in the series - with whom they break into one of Reyes' money laundering operations. They burn millions of dollars there. This causes Reyes to his money be placed in a safe hiding place: the evidence - safe in the evidence room of a local police station.

While planning the robbery, the team realizes they can't get a vehicle fast enough to escape the cameras in the police garage. In order to enter the police station without being noticed, they steal four police vehicles and also manage to get a structurally identical safe and Reyes' handprint, which is necessary to open the safe. When they are about to leave for the robbery, the search team arrives with Agent Hobbs. After a fight between Dominic and Hobbs, which ends with Dominic leaving Hobbs, everyone is arrested. On the way to the airport, Reyes' men attacked the convoy with heavy weapons. With Elena's help, Dominic and Brian rescue Agent Hobbs. Vince is shot and succumbs to his injuries as the incident takes place. Hobbs seeks revenge for his slain team and decides to support Dominic and his team until Reyes is dead. The robbery takes place the next day. Hobbs uses an armored truck to break through the wall to the vault. Dominic and Brian secure the safe with steel cables to their vehicles and escape. There is a daring chase through the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Dominic and Brian are not only being followed by the police, but also by Reyes' men.

The final meeting takes place on a bridge. Dominic orders Brian to take care of Mia and cuts the rope connecting Brian's car to the safe. Brian can then run away. Dominic turns back with the safe and uses it to destroy the cars of his pursuers. In the end, he can destroy Reyes' vehicle with his own, but he cannot kill it. Brian, who finally decided not to flee, kills Reyes' right hand Zizi and thus saves Dominic's life. When Reyes crawls out of the car, Hobbs shoots him. Hobbs gives Dominic and Brian a 24-hour head start to escape, but keeps the safe with him. When he opens it, however, he finds out that the safe is empty. The team around Dominic and Brian had this, as you can learn in a supplementary flashback , exchanged during the escape from the police. The money is divided among the members. At the end, all team members are shown who are now going their own way: Roman uses his money for cars and clothes, Tej has opened his own car repair shop, Han and Gisele drive around the world together, Vince's wife and son were brought his share by Dominic , Leo and Santos bet their money in the casino on roulette, and Brian and Mia live in a beach house where they are visited by Dom and Elena, who have since become a couple.

In a scene in the credits you can see Hobbs and Monica Fuentes (from 2 Fast 2 Furious , played by Eva Mendes ), who hands him a file. It contains details of a robbery in Berlin. Hobbs isn't interested at first as Dominic Toretto doesn't seem involved. Fuentes tells him to read on, and Hobbs realizes that Letty Ortiz ( Michelle Rodríguez ) has been involved, which has been since Fast & Furious. Original parts. is considered dead.

reception

Reviews

The Rotten Tomatoes review collection lists 193 reviews, 77% of which are positive. The average rating is 6.4 out of 10 points.

“Fast & Furios Five is the fifth installment in a cinematic mixture of gasoline and steroids and the kind of film that US critics reserve the label 'No-Brainer' for. Membership in this unofficial 'genre' can usually be recognized by the muscles that their stars display while they speak like sentences punched out of Krupp steel. Logic of action, on the other hand, is not their forte, and the action scenes are clearly no longer about playing with the laws of physics and medicine; they are simply overridden. As silly as it seems to claim more realism, there is a persistent problem: When seeing a no-brainer, your own brain cannot simply be switched off; after all, it is needed even for the elementary production of meaning. Unfortunately, Fast & Furios Five already owes too much at this level and also arrogantly rejects the [...] way out of irony. "

Gross profit

Production costs amounted to 125 million US dollars .

On the opening weekend, the film grossed $ 83.6 million at the box office in the United States. This is the most successful theatrical release of a film in 2011. So far, it has grossed around $ 585.5 million worldwide. The highest revenue outside of the United States was recorded in Russia with around 29 million US dollars, in the United Kingdom with just under 30 million US dollars, Australia with 26.8 million US dollars and Germany with 25.7 million US dollars -Dollar.

Trivia

  • The Dodge Charger Police Interceptors shown in the film were partly original 2011 Dodge Charger models, but partly also modified 2005 models. This can be seen above all on the C-pillars and rear lights of the vehicles. The modified Police Chargers have the 2011 rear lights, but have the wide extension of the wheel arch ("hip") on the C-pillar, while the original 2011 models draw a continuous line here.
