The Lexus LFA is a two-seater supercar from Lexus . The vehicle is the second model in the F Performance series after the IS-F .

history

The first LF-A concept premiered at the North American International Auto Show in 2005, followed by a second LF-A study with a fully furnished interior in 2007. The third study, a roadster, was shown in 2008. The production model of the LFA was presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2010.

Lexus presented the limited special model Nürburgring Performance Package for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011. This version, which is 7 kW (10 PS) more powerful and 5 kilograms lighter than the basic model, was limited to 50 units. The Nürburgring package includes optimized aerodynamics , other wheels with special tires and special paintwork in matt black, black, white or orange.

The production volume of the LFA was limited to a total of 500 vehicles. On December 14, 2012, the last limited-edition sports car left the Motomachi production facility in Aichi Prefecture in Japan, which was reserved for them .

technology

The Lexus LFA has a V10 engine that was developed from the ground up in cooperation with Yamaha . The 4.8 liter LFA's uncharged front mid- engine generates an output of 412 kW and reaches top speeds of 9000 rpm. The V10 engine delivers a maximum torque of 480 Newton meters at 6800 rpm. The VVT-i variable valve control for inlet and outlet with 12-hole high-pressure injection nozzles and exhaust manifolds of the same length are used , which contribute to the fact that at least 90% of the maximum torque in the range between 3700 and 9000 rpm can be obtained.

The power of the compact V10 engine is transmitted to the rear wheels via an automated sequential six-speed manual gearbox ( ASG ) via a Torsen limited-slip differential . Thanks to the transaxle design with the gearbox located directly on the rear axle, the axle load distribution is shifted to 48:52 in favor of the rear axle. The automated manual transmission has four driving modes (auto, sport, normal and wet) that can be selected using a rotary switch on the instrument panel. With special gearshift profiles, each mode has its own engine and brake control characteristics that enable the driver to adapt to the respective road conditions. The switching speed can be changed in seven steps from 0.2 seconds for sporty driving up to 1.0 seconds for comfortable gliding via a selector switch.
