The GX series was first presented and sold in 2003. It is not officially offered in Germany.

The Lexus GX is related to the Toyota Land Cruiser .

The first generation was offered as the GX 470 (UZJ120). It had a V8, 4.7-liter engine with 209 kW (285 hp) and 438 Nm of torque. The GX 470 was based almost entirely on the Toyota Land Cruiser 120 series.

With the 2009 model year Lexus launched the GX 460 (URJ150). This is also related to the Toyota Land Cruiser 150, but made its debut before its sister model. The GX 460 has a V8 that has grown to 4.6 liters. This has an output of 224 kW (305 hp) at 446 Nm of torque. Since 2012, a smaller V6 engine has been offered in some markets instead (GX 400).

In 2013 the GX received a facelift and now carries the new Lexus grill . In 2019 the series was revised again.
