The Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green was a district in the metropolitan area of ​​the British capital London with the status of a Metropolitan Borough . It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was located in the northeast of the former County of London .

history

Bethnal Green was originally a hamlet belonging to Stepney and was raised to an independent civil parish in Middlesex in 1743 . From 1855, the community belonged to the catchment area of ​​the Metropolitan Board of Works . In 1889 Bethnal Green became part of the new County of London, and was converted into a Metropolitan Borough eleven years later.

When Greater London was founded in 1965, the metropolitan boroughs Bethnal Green, Poplar and Stepney merged to form the London Borough of Tower Hamlets .
