The Metropolitan Borough of Deptford was a district in the metropolitan area of ​​the British capital London with the status of a Metropolitan Borough . It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was located in the southeast of the former County of London .

history

Deptford was originally a Civil parish in Kent . In 1730 it was separated into the parishes of St Paul Deptford and St Nicholas Deptford. From 1855 both parishes belonged to the catchment area of ​​the Metropolitan Board of Works , in 1889 they came to the new County of London. When there was another administrative reform in 1900, there were initially considerations to merge both parishes into a Metropolitan Borough. Eventually only St Paul Deptford received this status, while St Nicholas Deptford was merged with the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich .

At the foundation of Greater London in 1965, the Metropolitan Borough Deptford and was born from the merger Lewisham the London Borough of Lewisham .
