history
Deptford was originally a Civil parish in Kent . In 1730 it was separated into the parishes of St Paul Deptford and St Nicholas Deptford. From 1855 both parishes belonged to the catchment area of the Metropolitan Board of Works , in 1889 they came to the new County of London. When there was another administrative reform in 1900, there were initially considerations to merge both parishes into a Metropolitan Borough. Eventually only St Paul Deptford received this status, while St Nicholas Deptford was merged with the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich .
