Georges Edmond Robert Gilson (born May 30, 1929 in Paris ) is a French clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Sens , was the last Metropolitan of Sens and is emeritus prelate of the Mission de France o Pontigny .

Life

Georges Gilson, a boy scout in his youth, studied at the Institut Catholique de Paris and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . He received on 21 April 1957 by Emile-Arsène Blanchet the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Paris and then worked as a parish priest in Nanterre . In 1965 he became secretary to Pierre Veuillot , Archbishop of Paris, and attended the last session of the Second Vatican Council with him. He retained the function of secretary under Veuillot's successor, François Cardinal Marty , who appointed him Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Paris in 1974 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on July 13, 1976 titular bishop of Benda and auxiliary bishop in Paris. The episcopal ordination received his Cardinal Marty on 9 October of the same year; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Robert Frossard and Daniel Pézeril.

On August 13, 1981 Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Le Mans and on August 2, 1996 Archbishop of Sens and Prelate of the Mission de France. Until 2002 he was Metropolitan of the ecclesiastical province of Sens, before the archbishopric was assigned to the ecclesiastical province of Dijon on December 8 of this year.

On December 31, 2004, John Paul II accepted his resignation because of his age. Gilson then retired to Paris. He is honorary canon of the Paderborn Metropolitan Chapter .
