François Marty
Gabriel Auguste François Cardinal Marty ( François Cardinal Marty ) (* 16th May 1904 in Vaureilles , France ; † 16th February 1994 in Villefranche-de-Rouerque , France) was bishop of Saint-Flour , later Archbishop of Reims and Paris . From 1969 to 1975 he was President of the French Bishops' Conference .
Life
François Marty received the sacrament of ordination on June 28, 1930 after theological and philosophical studies in Rodez and Toulouse . He then worked as a pastor in various parishes in the Rodez diocese until 1951 . In 1951 he became vicar general of Rodez.
Pope Pius XII appointed Marty Bishop of Saint-Flour on February 6, 1952 . He received his episcopal ordination on May 1st of the same year Marcel-Marie-Henri-Paul Dubois , Bishop of Rodez; Co - consecrators were Aimédée-Alexis-Marie Maisonobe , Bishop of Belley , and Alfred Coudere , Bishop of Viviers .
On December 14, 1959, Pope John XXIII appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Hemesa and Koadjutorerzbischof of the Archdiocese of Reims, whose leadership François Marty in 1960 took over. From 1962 to 1965 he took part in the Second Vatican Council . In 1966 he became President of the Permanent Commission of the French Bishops' Conference . On March 26, 1968, Pope Paul VI appointed him . Archbishop of Paris, a year later he accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Luigi dei Francesi in the college of cardinals . After reaching retirement age, he resigned from the office of Archbishop of Paris on January 31, 1981.
François Cardinal Marty died on February 16, 1994 in a car accident in Villefranche-de-Rouergue and was buried in Pachins .
