The Metropolitan Borough of Poplar was a district in the metropolitan area of ​​the British capital London with the status of a Metropolitan Borough . It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was in the east of the former County of London .

history

The district emerged from the Civil parishes Bow, Bromley and Poplar, which were originally in the county of Middlesex and were combined in the Poplar District, an administrative community. From 1855, the communities belonged to the catchment area of ​​the Metropolitan Board of Works . In 1889 they came to the County of London, eleven years later they were merged to form a Metropolitan Borough.

When Greater London was founded in 1965, the metropolitan boroughs Bethnal Green , Poplar and Stepney merged to form the London Borough of Tower Hamlets .
