Metropolitan Borough of Islington
The Metropolitan Borough of Islington was a district in the metropolitan area of the British capital London with the status of a Metropolitan Borough . It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was located in the north of the former County of London .
history
Islington was originally a Civil parish in Middlesex . From 1855, the community belonged to the catchment area of the Metropolitan Board of Works . In 1889, Islington became part of the County of London, and was converted into a Metropolitan Borough eleven years later.
When Greater London was founded in 1965, the London Borough of Islington was formed from the merger of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Islington and Finsbury .
