Metropolitan Borough of Hampstead
The Metropolitan Borough of Hampstead was a district in the metropolitan area of the British capital London with the status of a Metropolitan Borough . It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was located in the north-west of the former County of London .
history
Hampstead was originally a Civil parish in Middlesex County . From 1855, the community belonged to the catchment area of the Metropolitan Board of Works . In 1889 Hampstead became part of the County of London, eleven years later it was converted into a Metropolitan Borough.
When Greater London was founded in 1965, the metropolitan boroughs of Hampstead, Holborn and St Pancras became the London Borough of Camden .
