The Metropolitan Borough of Camberwell was a district in the metropolitan area of ​​the British capital London with the status of a Metropolitan Borough . It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was located in the south of the former County of London .

history

Camberwell was originally a Civil parish in Surrey . From 1855, the community belonged to the catchment area of ​​the Metropolitan Board of Works . In 1889 Camberwell came to the new County of London, eleven years later the conversion into a Metropolitan Borough followed.

At the foundation of Greater London in 1965, the Metropolitan Borough was created from the merger Bermondsey , Camberwell and Southwark the London Borough of Southwark .
