The Urban District of Friern Barnet was a district in the metropolitan area of ​​the British capital London . It existed from 1875 to 1965 and was located in the northeast of the former county of Middlesex .

history

Friern Barnet was originally a Civil parish in the Harde (hundred) Ossulstone. In 1875 a rural sanitary district was created with headquarters in Barnet , which had expanded powers in the infrastructure area. Based on a petition from residents subject to property tax, the municipality formed its own health district from 1884, which was reconstituted as the Urban District ten years later .

When the Greater London administrative region was founded in 1965, the London Borough of Barnet was created . Friern Barnet and the municipal boroughs Finchley and Hendon in the county of Middlesex and the urban districts of Barnet and East Barnet in the county of Hertfordshire merged.
