Metropolitan Borough of Stoke Newington
The Metropolitan Borough of Stoke Newington was a district in the metropolitan area of the British capital London with the status of a Metropolitan Borough . It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was located in the north of the former County of London .
history
Stoke Newington was originally a Civil parish in the county of Middlesex . From 1855, the community belonged to the catchment area of the Metropolitan Board of Works . In 1889 Stoke Newington became part of the County of London. In the area of this municipality there were three exclaves with a total area of 0.9 km². These formed the parish of South Hornsey, which initially remained with Middlesex. In 1900, Stoke Newington and South Hornsey were finally merged into a metropolitan borough.
When Greater London was founded in 1965, the London Borough of Hackney was formed from the merger of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Hackney , Shoreditch and Stoke Newington .
