Metropolitan Borough of Hackney
The Metropolitan Borough of Hackney was a district in the metropolitan area of the British capital London with the status of a Metropolitan Borough . It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was located in the northeast of the former County of London .
history
Hackney was originally a Civil parish in Middlesex County . From 1855, the community belonged to the catchment area of the Metropolitan Board of Works . Hackney became part of the County of London in 1889, and was converted into a Metropolitan Borough eleven years later. This resulted in minor border adjustments with the surrounding districts of Stoke Newington , Shoreditch and Bethnal Green . Another border adjustment took place in 1908 with Tottenham .
When Greater London was founded in 1965, the London Borough of Hackney was formed from the merger of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Hackney, Shoreditch and Stoke Newington .
