Municipal Borough of Tottenham
The Municipal Borough of Tottenham was a district in the metropolitan area of the British capital London . It existed from 1850 to 1965 under different names and was located in the northeast of the former county of Middlesex .
history
Tottenham was originally a Civil parish in the Harde (hundred) Edmonton. In 1850 a local board of health was created with competencies in the infrastructure sector . From this, an urban sanitary district was created in 1875 with expanded powers. Wood Green, which was part of Tottenham until then, received its own authority in 1888 and went into business for itself. In 1894 the health district was reconstituted as the Urban District . This in turn received the status of a Municipal Borough in 1934 .
When the Greater London administrative region was founded in 1965, the London Borough of Haringey was formed from the merger of the municipal boroughs Hornsey , Tottenham and Wood Green .
