Ealing in the former county of Middlesex

The Municipal Borough of Ealing was a district in the metropolitan area of the British capital London . It existed from 1863 to 1965 under different names and was located in the center of the former county of Middlesex .

history

Ealing was originally a Civil parish in the Harde (hundred) Ossulstone. In 1863 a local board of health was created with competencies in the infrastructure sector, which initially looked after the southern part of Ealing, and from 1873 the entire community. This resulted in an urban sanitary district in 1875 with expanded powers. In 1894 the health district was reconstituted as the Urban District . This in turn received 1901 as the first area in Middlesex the status of a Municipal Borough . In 1926 the previously independent urban districts Greenford and Hanwell merged with Ealing, which more than tripled the area.

When the Greater London Administrative Region was founded in 1965, the London Borough of Ealing was formed from the merger of the Municipal Boroughs Acton , Ealing and Southall .

Until 1926 the area was 2947 acres (11.93 km²), then 8,783 acres (35.54 km²). The censuses showed the following population figures:
