The villages of Yiewsley and West Drayton were originally Civil parishes that had been part of the Uxbridge Rural District since 1875 . In 1911, Yiewsley became self-employed and received the status of an Urban District . West Drayton was incorporated in 1929 after the Uxbridge Rural District was dissolved. In 1930 the incorporation of Harmondsworth followed, which had previously belonged to the Staines Rural District . Overall, the area of ​​the Urban District grew almost sevenfold.

When the Greater London administrative region was founded in 1965, the London Borough of Hillingdon was formed from the merger of the Municipal Borough of Uxbridge and the Urban Districts Hayes and Harlington , Ruislip-Northwood and Yiewsley and West Drayton .
