route

The 19-kilometer route starts at the parish church of St. Peter. About 900 meters in altitude have to be overcome within 6 hours. The path leads from the Liesertal into the Maltatal , whereby on the way from St. Peter / Rennweg to Malta a scenic mountain landscape is traversed.

history

The origin of the procession of Malta probably goes back to the time of the plague at the beginning of the 16th century. The occasion was prayers of supplication or thanksgiving to the Mother of God Mary , which explains the destination of the pilgrimage, the parish church Maria Hilf Assumptio in Malta.
