Acton was originally a Civil parish in the Harde (hundred) Ossulstone. In 1868 a local board of health was created with competencies in the infrastructure sector . When the Greater London Administrative Region was founded in 1965, the London Borough of Ealing was formed from the merger of the Municipal Boroughs Acton, Ealing and Southall .
