Symonanthus bancroftii is a plant type from the genus Symonanthus in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Symonanthus bancroftii is a dwarf shrub up to 25 cm high that is moderately to sparsely populated with mostly glandular, simple or slightly branched trichomes . Non-glandular trichomes can be found on the flower stalks , calyxes and crowns . The leaves are narrowly ovate to elliptical, sessile and 5 to 17 mm long and 1 to 3 mm wide. They are entire to curved, the leaf margin is strongly bent back.

The flowers are single. Male flowers are on 1 to 3.5 mm long peduncles, their calyx is 2 to 2.5 mm long, the crown 5 to 6 mm with a 4 to 5 mm long corolla tube. The five stamens are 3.5 to 4.5 mm long. The ovary is sterile and is only 0.4 to 1 mm long. Female flowers are similar, but their stamens are sterile and only 1.5 mm long, the ovary is 1 mm long and contains four or five ovules .

The fruit is an almost spherical capsule with a length of 3 to 4 mm, it contains about 2 mm long seeds .

Distribution and locations

The species is only known from very few locations in the southeastern Wheatbelt region of southwestern Western Australia .
