Michael Christopher Sheen , OBE (born February 5, 1969 in Newport ) is a British theater , film and television actor .

life and career

Sheen grew up in Port Talbot and performed as a teenager at the West Glamorgan Youth Theater and the National Youth Theater of Wales . Even today he maintains a close connection to his Welsh homeland; For example, he shot a performance of the secular passion play The Passion on location in Port Talbot in 2011 with the participation of the local population (the filmed version was released in 2012 under the title The Gospel of Us , the title of the novel by Owen Sheers of the same name ). Sheen is also very interested in his home country politically. He filmed the documentary Michael Sheen's Valleys Rebellion for the BBC , in which he dealt with the current disappointment of Welsh politics.

Sheen began his formal acting training in 1988 when he moved to London to join the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). In his sophomore year there, he received the Society of London Theater's Laurence Olivier Scholarship for particularly talented actors. He finally got his bachelor's degree in acting in 1991. He also proves his interest in the next generation of film fans in the CBBC program CINEMANIACS, which was launched in 2015 . This is aimed at children who would like to learn more about the making of films or who would like to lend a hand themselves. Alongside David Tennant Sheen is in the lead role of the 2019 Angel Erziraphael (Tennant as a demon Crowley) in Neil Gaiman's six-part BBC - Miniseries Good Omens to see. It is a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett . Filming was completed in February 2018. It premiered on Amazon Prime on June 1, 2019 and premiered on BBC Two .

Private life

For some time he lived with his then partner Kate Beckinsale in the USA. The two have a daughter (* 1999) who grew up at Beckinsale. After the relationship ended, he returned to the UK. Sheen lives and works in London , but also has an apartment in Los Angeles and is in regular contact with his daughter.

From 2004 to 2010, Sheen had a long-distance relationship with English ballet dancer Lorraine Stewart. From 2010 to 2013 he was in a relationship with fellow actor Rachel McAdams , whom he met on the set of Midnight in Paris . From early 2014 to late 2017, Sheen was in a relationship with comedian Sarah Silverman , whom he met on the set of the Masters of Sex series .

In the summer of 2019, Sheen and his partner, the Swedish actress Anna Lundberg, announced the approaching birth of their first child together. The girl was born on September 23, 2019, just two weeks before the daughter of her Good Omens co-star and good friend David Tennant , whereupon various series allusions circulated on social networks and were also picked up by the two families.
