action
The three Vietnam War veterans Cody Allen, Nick Ryder and Murray Bozinsky run a detective agency in their cabin cruiser called Riptide in King Harbor , Redondo Beach south of Los Angeles on the California coast. In contrast to the sporty former front soldiers Cody and Nick, Murray is a strange but lovable computer freak. In addition to the Riptide, the three of them own a speedboat called Ebbtide , a GMC Jimmy , a 1960 Chevrolet Corvette and a pink-colored and interestingly decorated helicopter called Screaming Mimi of the Sikorsky S-58T type .

Broadcast Notes
In Germany, ZDF showed a selection of 47 episodes from 1985 to 1989. ProSieben submitted the omitted episodes in 1990 and a single episode in 1995, with the exception of the episode Alleged Enemy ( The Twisted Cross ), as it is about Nazis. Further repetitions followed at ProSieben (1991, 1994–1996), Sat.1 (1993), VOX (1996–1997 and 1998), kabel eins (2000, 2002 and 2008), kabel eins classics (2007, 2009 and twice in 2010) ), RTL Crime (2012 and 2013) and RTL Nitro since 2013. The episode Alleged Enemy was shown for the first time in 2013 on RTL Nitro, with the original sound and subtitles. The episode The Suitcase of the Chinese ( Smiles We Left Behind ) from the third season is originally a double episode. For the German broadcast it was shortened by ZDF to the length of a regular episode.
DVD release
All three seasons were released in the United States and Canada on Sony Pictures Home Entertainment . In the Canadian version, the music is unchanged in the first season. In seasons two and three, songs were partially exchanged.
The first season was released in Germany on May 29, 2009 by Universum Film on DVD. On July 31st and September 25th, 2009, seasons two and three were released. All seasons of the German DVDs contain the unchanged music. On June 25, 2010, the complete DVD box was released, with all three seasons.
The DVD release shows the complete double episode The Suitcase of the Chinese , as well as the shortened German version. The two episodes The case of Chinese and Alleged enemy are in the original with German subtitles ( subtitles included) on the DVDs.
Opening credits
For the first season, an opening credits were used in which only the title music can be heard during the excerpts shown. From the second season on, this concept was changed so that the background noises such as water, helicopter rotors, moving cars, etc. can also be heard here in the excerpts shown, so that these were superimposed on the title music. With the third season this was changed again, so that only the title music can be heard here again.
In the first two seasons, numerous excerpts from the various episodes can be seen as short sequences in the opening credits. These were lined up in a row. The sequences in the opening credits of the third season, on the other hand, partly contain computer-generated transitions in the form of colored transitions and palm-like figures.
Awards
In 1985, actor John Louie was nominated for the Young Artist Award in the Best Young Actor category for his guest appearance on Trio with Four Fists . The series was nominated for the use of the Roboz robot at the TV Land Awards 2008 in the Awesomest Robot category.
