MTV Base is a digital pay-TV - music channel from the UK with a focus on music genres like rap , hip-hop , R'n'B or reggae . In addition, reality formats of the parent broadcaster MTV One are broadcast in some cases , which should be relevant for the target group, such as Pimp My Ride .
It started broadcasting on July 1, 1999. Until March 7, 2008, the station could also be received in Germany via the MTV Tune Inn package, before MTV Dance took over the program slot . In addition to the English version, a version for sub-Saharan Africa has existed since February 2005 , which is the only African MTV program to also include other types of music such as rock in the playlists.
