Viva UK & Ireland was an offshoot of the German broadcaster VIVA Deutschland , which took over all frequencies of the British offshoot of the music broadcaster The Music Factory on October 26, 2009 . In addition to VIVA, Viacom also operates numerous MTV offshoots and VH1 in the United Kingdom and Ireland .
Since March 28, 2013, VIVA UK & Ireland has been freely receivable via Astra 2A (28.2 ° East). He is now in competition with a dozen free-to-air music channels in this position.
On October 8, 2014, it was announced that Viacom would largely replace VIVA UK & Ireland with Spike on the nationwide DVB-T platform Freeview . However, Viva should continue to broadcast 24 hours a day via the Freesat satellite platform. Since April 2015 Viva has only been broadcasting via DVB-T from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. since then Spike has been broadcasting the rest of the time. Viva then removed the previously broadcast reality programs from the program and now only broadcasts music videos. The station was discontinued on January 31, 2018 and is to be replaced by the new station MTV OMG on March 1, 2018.
