MTV is a Canadian television station based in Toronto , Ontario , Canada . The specialty program consists of a mix of talk and lifestyle documentaries. MTV Canada is owned by Bell Media and broadcasts its programming under license from Viacom (MTV Networks). Due to restrictions imposed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) , the broadcaster has not been allowed to broadcast music videos since it began broadcasting in 2000. The Canadian music broadcaster MuchMusic , which began broadcasting in 1984 and is now part of MTV Canada , broadcasts the latest music videos around the clock. On October 18, 2001, MTV2 Canada also began broadcasting.
