MTV2 is a Canadian music station based in Toronto , Ontario , Canada . The special interest channel broadcasts lifestyle and general entertainment programs as well as current music videos and primarily addresses young people. MTV2 is owned by Bell Media and broadcasts under license from Viacom (MTV Networks).

history

On November 24, 2000, the Canadian regulatory authority, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced the approval of a new music station to broadcast. Craig Media , in collaboration with TD Capital Group Ltd , received the broadcast license for a music channel for young people. One of the restrictions, however, was that the broadcaster was initially not allowed to send more than 10% of its daily airtime music videos in order to keep Canadian broadcaster MuchMusic and operator CHUM Ltd. to protect.

In August 2001, Craig Media announced that the new station would broadcast its programs under the MTV logo. On December 1, 2004, CHUM Ltd. Craig Media . In 2005, the station was renamed Razer . In 2006 Bell Media announced plans to take over the broadcaster from CHUM Ltd. When the Canadian regulatory authority, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) issued its approval on June 3, 2007, the takeover was completed on June 22, 2007. On August 1, 2008, the station was renamed MTV2 again.

Receptibility

The transmitter is fed into the digital cable network by several cable network operators. The station can therefore be received almost nationwide. The station can also be received via satellite through Bell TV and Shaw Direct. Can also be received through IPTV from Bell Fibe TV, Bell Aliant , MTS , Optik TV (in Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec), and SaskTel .
