final

In the final there was a new edition of the 1977 final, as both participants at that time had defeated the first participants and were now playing to see if Reardon could keep the title he had won at 12: 8. Mountjoy started the final better and took a 5-0 lead, which Reardon was only able to reduce to 5-3 and 6-4. Then Mountjoy won two more frames before the six-time world champion Reardon came up to 8: 6 before Mountjoy could win the tournament by winning the next frame.
